April in Barcelona.
This was a pleasant surprise of a trip. We did not have any plans to visit Spain, but my mom and aunt were planning a month long trip and offered all the kids free lodging if we met them out there. They visited several cities along their journey, and we opted to meet them in Barcelona. It felt like the first time I’d been because it’s been over 10 years since I first visited the city.
We arrived one day early so we booked a night at the Hotel Neri, which was a special experience. The rest of the nights were with my family at an Airbnb which had a great location in the center of the city.
For the most part, the photos speak for themselves. Good food, walkable city, and beautiful sites. Arriving at the airport was easy and was a short commute to the city center. There are many lists online with all the main tourist attractions but I’ll list here a few other activities. I highly recommend these things we did. The highlights:
- The tour guide for the Devour Tour was a gem, so kind and informative. It was a lovely group, which definitely adds to the food tour experience.
- The flamenco show was one of the best live performances I have been to. The theatre was intimate and had wonderful acoustics to truly appreciate their voice and intricacy of the dance.
- The Neri Hotel was beautiful and in the dream location. The gothic quarter feels like it is a world away with so many shops and restaurants nearby. The staff, room and restaurant were top notch.
- The fruit stands. Please make sure to stop and pick up some of the fresh fruit. The mango, mangosteen and cherries were standouts!
- My family did a tuktuk tour which they highly recommended. If walking the entire city is not appealing or possible, the tour provides a personal view and photo opportunity of all the city sites.
